Arsys Bourgogne, conducted by Pierre Cao
Number of discs: 1CD
Year recorded: 2003
Recording venue: Chapelle des Parlementaires (Paris)
This disc pays homage to the talent and expressivity of Biber’s music. It includes the poignant and rarely played Requiem in F Minor and four offertories from the archival manuscripts of the Salzburg Cathedral.
Heinrich Biber (1644-1704) was a Bohemian-Austrian composer who also founded the German school of violin music. Well-known and revered in his time, he was the Chapel Master of the Archbishop Chapel of Salzburg, an important European music centre at the time, which also became the birthplace of Mozart. Doctor Hintermeier, musicologist and archive director, helped us immensely in this project, where an in depth knowledge of the grandeur and magnificence of the 17th century Austrian cathedral was needed.
